Essay Contest

The purpose of this Essay Contest is to award up to four (4) deserving graduating seniors with a cash prize of $500.00. It is up to the students to follow the rules and submit their essay in compliance with the rules and by the review deadline. This is a contest and not a scholarship. It is not a requirement to apply for or attend college in order to compete in this contest. It is a requirement to be a Graduating Senior from Essex County New York. A $500.00 cash prize will be awarded to four students assuming that qualifying essays are submitted.

Essay Rules:

The essay subject will be “how a member of the military service past or present” has helped to shape the student’s life and values. The service member does not have to have been a relative. The student must have had actual interactions with the military member.

The essay must be written in the same manner as would be expected to be submitted for evaluation for a college application.

Simple guidelines; spelling, punctuation, legible, proper flow, complete sentences and ideas.

The student’s full name and address must be included on the essay.

Essays must be received by May 23, 2025, mail to Essex County Leathernecks 1145 White Church Rd. Crown Point, New York 12928 or emailed to [email protected]. Early submissions are welcomed.

Essays received after the deadline will not be considered.
