Come see why we are the fastest growing Marine Corps League membership in New York

Keynote Speaker: Capt Daniel teRiele

Essex County Leathernecks are delighted to host Ticonderoga native, Capt Daniel teRiele (Active Reserve) as the keynote speaker at our Birthday Ball.  Capt teRiele is currently an Aide de Camp for the Commanding General of the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing. In early summer he will be reassigned to attend the Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA.

Capt teRiele is excited to come home and share the 250th Marine Corps birthday milestone with his loved ones, the family he grew up with and with our community. Even though his life as an Aide de Camp is eventful, most days at home consist of morning CrossFit sessions, lunches running along the Mississippi river and evenings with his family.

During work hours, Capt teRiele is continuously adapting to the needs of the day.  One day he is preparing for inspections and the next he is in Trinidad. Today’s Marine Corps is also adapting itself to changing times. The Marine Corps is finding the right balance between maintaining traditions and adapting to the virtual world, including social media. Marines were often advised to avoid certain topics on social media. Today’s Marine Corps includes Marine social media influencers as their primary occupation. One example of a successful Marine influencer is the 20th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps.

Capt teRiele stays in the Marine Corps because of the people and the organization. As is true with all Marines, the Marine Corps offers us hard lessons. For Capt teRiele one of his challenges came when his unit failed an inspection. As a department leader Capt teRiele reflected that he wasn’t doing enough oversight and trusted too much the work would get done. During this time Capt teRiele received a promotion to Captain all the while navigating turning around the low morale in his unit stemming from the failed inspection. Capt teRiele took charge, put the right people in the right jobs, cleaned up the processes and tied up other loose ends. At the same time, he began recruiting his own replacement. When he handed over the work center, he left a well-functioning department to his friend and incoming Marine officer.

We look forward to celebrating our traditions with the community and hearing Capt teRiele’s speech at the Birthday Ball.  Until then, here’s a sneak peak of our guest and a few of the important moments of his life:
